The air is cool as old country music plays and the city of San Marcos flashes by outside the windows of the little red and white bus. The CARTS bus, seen often around town but not much is known about it.
CARTS runs Monday through Friday 7am to 6pm, has ten different routes and can take people just about anywhere they need to go in town, all for the very low fee of 50 cents or free if they are a student at Texas State.
Even though the CARTS bus is free for Texas State students, not many ride the city bus. The bus is taken mostly by San Marcos locals and let’s face it most students at Texas State don’t take the time to get to know the people of San Marcos while they go to school here.
While riding the bus I saw many things I had never seen in the years I have lived in San Marcos. The San Marcos High School for one, I never even knew where it was. The CARTS bus I took makes a stop there every day after four and I never knew that.
Taking the CARTS bus is a really cheap and easy way to get around town and more Texas State students should take it, they could learn a lot about the town of San Marcos and the people who live in it.
