The Bus Station

The San Marcos Bus Station is made up of three separate departments or transportation businesses. So as you enter there are three different desks. There’s the CARTS Bus service on the right which takes people around San Marcos, the Greyhound service on the left which takes people around the state, to San Antonio, Austin, etc., and a Taxi service located at the back and on the right. At the time that I went most of the buses had just left the station. And after talking to the man working the Greyhound desk I learned that there were primarily only three days that they get busy; Mondays, when people go to work, Tuesdays, when the people from the Gary Job Corps get Brought in, and Fridays, when people return for work.

I started to ask him about the Job Corps. He described them as people who were considered at risk, or just needed to get away from their past lives. So they come here to live and learn a trade, and then are shipped off to go work someplace else every week.

This would seem to be a segment of the population that isn’t represented in the media. From them I could learn personal stories, do profiles on them, and learn how they are affected by changes in the community,

It may be better to talk to them at the Gary Jobs Corps Location but some may not feel comfortable talking there if there is some sort of mistreatment going on. Which could be another interesting topic to cover.
